Choosing the Right Voice for a Radio Commercial

Radio Picture

The Voice behind the Commercial

Radio commercials are crafted to entice listeners to purchase a product or service. That’s why it’s important the voice being heard is powerful and resounding if that is what is called for – or conversational and real which is more often requested by advertisers today.

Clarity

Listeners need to be able understand what is being advertised. The person must not speak too fast or too slow and must be able to pronounce each word properly without over enunciating or sounding forced.

Audibility

Soft voices make it harder to hear what is being said, and loud voices are a turn-off. The speaker needs to be able to control the quality of his or her voice. That vocal quality must be appropriate to the product and feeling the client is attempting to achieve toward the product.

Convincing

It’s up to the voiceover talent to ‘sell’ the product or service without coming off as ‘salesy’. When they talk, they must convince everyone that the product or service is worth purchasing, and it has to be done in a way that matches the advertiser’s intention and desired tone.

Radio commercials rely on the voice to make the commercial interesting and exciting, not dull and boring. If you are looking for a professional voice over talent for your next commercial, contact Melanie Haynes at 281-794-3730
